the best book I have read on the story is Patricia Cornwells book about Jack the Ripper!. If you have read any, read this!.!.!. Patricia Cornwell is a crime investigation writer!. She has had a series of books about Kay Scarpetta which amounts to about 15 books, about one a year!. You get to know all of her characters as they remain the same!.!.!.just different stories!.!.!.very CSI, but the whole thing, murder, investigation, hunting killers, and capture all in one!. Read this book, link below, it will put a whole new spin on the theories you may have already formed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The prime suspect at the time of the ripper murders was a man called Montague John Druitt, a failed barrister and schoolmaster!. He committed suicide in December 1888, and only some years later was it discovered that he had been the prime suspect at the time!.

In 'Prince Eddy and the Homosexual underworld' Theo Aronson writes that he thinks that the identity of Druitt as the ripper was hushed up due to his connection with Prince Eddy, the elder son of the Prince of Wales!.Apparently Druitt and Prince Eddy both mixed in the same circle of secret homosexual men (homosexuality was illegal at that time), and that his part in the Ripper murders was hushed up for this reason!.

This sounds quite convincing to me!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it was Joe Barret, boyfriend of one of the victims, Mary Jane Kelly!. Barret fits the FBI profile, and was a native of Whitechapel!. Because Barret lived his whole life in Whitechapel, its a good possiblity that he knew all of the victims!. He would have known how to move arround unnoticed in the crowed district of London!. also he was employed (all the murders were on the weekends) during the week, working at a fish packing house - So, he would have been proficient at cutting with a knife!.

JMO, for what its worth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I read a small article about this recently - it's all been 'hushed up' as apparently the guy was a doctor to the Royal family - he suffered "Jekyll and Hyde" mood swings and when he was in violent mode, he'd go out and kill!.

He was sectioned for his crimes but his disappearance was explained away as him having died suddenly, they even had a funeral for him!.

The person who discovered him was sworn to secrecy!.

However much truth is in this I don't know, I guess it's just one of those mysteries that we'll never really know the answer to!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Dr!. Francis Tumblety!. He died in 1903, an inventory of his personal belongings found two brass rings that matched the description of rings that belonged to Anne Chapman, the Ripper's second victim!.
Source shows a long list of circumstantial evidence against him, here are a few:
- fit the " serial killer profile"
- his wife worked as a prostitute
- had anatomical knowledge
- murders stopped when he left
- demonstrated ability to avoid police capture
- matched most descriptions of eye-witnessesWww@QuestionHome@Com

Of the named suspects I think Joe Barnett is the most likely one to have been Jack the Ripper!. He fits the VICAP profile for Saucy Jack and has a definite link to one of the victims!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
