The conflict that took shape in the 1790s between the Federalists and the Antifederalists exercised a profound impact on American history!. The Federalists, led by Alexander Hamilton, who had married into the wealthy Schuyler family, represented the urban mercantile interests of the seaports; the Antifederalists, led by Thomas Jefferson, spoke for the rural and southern interests!. The debate between the two concerned the power of the central government versus that of the states, with the Federalists favoring the former and the Antifederalists advocating states' rights!.

In simple terms, they had different beliefs on how strong the national government should be!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Cutie pie
Has pretty much summed it up!.

It should also be added if for no other reason than to defame Jefferson's character (Or the lack thereof!.) Now Hamilton (No moral pentacle in his own right!.) having been born a "Poor Bastard" (Thought of royal scotch blood!.) in the Caribbean, where he saw black slaves treated so inhumanly that it would have made the average southern slave driver whistle "Away to Canada" as he drove the work northward, was hardly a slavery inthusis!. Infact Hamilton hated slavery before it was cool to hate slavery!. But so did Jefferson, in theroy, but this didn't stop him from___ ( I mean having a "relationship" with) his slave(s) or keeping them in bondage until his death (No need for them now!?)!. Perhaps this hpocracy left Hamilton with a souer taste in his mouth!.
O but then it could have just been Jeffersons support of "The Terror" in France, his political newspaper attacks on the Washington Addministration writen under his direction or pusdnames, his intrigues agaisted the same after Washington gave Jefferson a Position in the Cabinate, or perhaps it was Jeffersons cowardice on the revolutionary battle feild in contrast to Hamiltons own bravery!. It was likly becuase Jefferson was an ***!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Alexander saw the need for a strong central power, this power was needed for currency and dealing with foreign policy!.
