hplover,

The defeat of the British was virtually inevitable due to logistics, highlighted by battles such as at Saratoga!.

The Battle of Saratoga was actually two smaller battles about two weeks apart!. at the end of the second battle the British commander, Gen Burgoyne(sp!?) surrendered 8,000 of his troops, including several thousand top fighting German Hessian mercenaries!.

Back then ( Sep/Oct 1777) it took weeks to get troops from England to the colonies!. To get thousands of troops from England to the colonies, during the fall and winter months would be nearly impossible!. And with the US Navy (and French) on the prowl for British ships - they had to fight their way through!. During that time the colonies could equip new troops with the captured equipment, and train them well!.

I hope this answered your question!.

Because of many other concerns the British could not afford to throw all their "might" against the rebellion in America!. The "rebels" didn't do well in the New England region, but had better results in the south!. At the battle of Yorkton The French involvement denied the British the ablilty to land reinforcement which allowed the "rebels" to defeat Cornwallis!.

Well we used a lot of gorilla warfare techniques that at the time the British Army wasn't used to and had a hard time adapting to, also we use a lot specific targeting of commanders this way the soldiers would not have leadership!.
