Vampires and Werewolves were feared during this period, Vampires were hunted down in their graves- the suspected graves were dug up, to see if there was any evidence of Vampirism!. If a body looked as if there was blood trickling from it's mouth, or evidence of hair growth, a wooden stake was driven through the heart in one go!. The body was then beheaded!.
Suspected Werewolves were often skinned alive to see if thier wolf skin was visible underneath!. Suspected werewolves were then burnt alive!.

Other cultures had various other creatures but for Europeans Vampires and Werewolves were the biggest worries after witches!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Goblins of one kind or another-kobolds, hobgoblins etc!.

Probably only really believed by children, they were the bogey man to keep them indoors at night!.

A lot of the serial killer / pederast victims wouyld have been chalked up against werewolves, vampires and the like!.

The beliefs were so serious people committed heinous crimes thinking they would get the benefits of the mythical creatures they were emulating-Elizabeth Bathory, for example!.

Demonic possession and the Evil Eye-causing bad things to happen with a malicious look-were two common beliefs!. Demons were put in their place with exorcisms, the evil eye was warded off with amulets and lucky charms-it's not really a creature, just one of the tricks up a witches' sleeve!.

Witches also had a familiar, a demon in an animal form, usually a cat or dog, to help them spy on people and carry out assorted nefarious deeds!. Toads, crows and snakes were also popular!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
