I guess the only thing I'm "mad" about in this whole deal is that there are (and have been) so many gutless wonders who know the truth and have failed to speak it aloud for fear of offending!. Let me explain!. Just out of curiosity, I studied the "History" of The South" while in college!. Why not!? I was a history major and I was studying other countries and the full early history of our country!. So many "African-American" students at the beginning of the semester, but they dwindled quickly when they found that the professor stuck with only the verifiable facts and wasn't so sympathetic to their "cause!." The truth is, blacks from Africa were NOT the first to be enslaved on these shores -- that sad "privilege" goes to the whites from the ghettos and debtors prisons of London -- whose life expectancy was less than three years here!. That the Europeans who did involve themselves in the slave business of Africa, were only capitalizing on age old traditions (that still continue to this day)!. The Europeans were not so bold (or stupid) to just go inland and kidnap!. No, they made bargains with various chieftans and kings there in Africa!. Go to any of the "Slave Museums" of the Ivory Coast and you will find a completely different accounting and perspective on the subject!. As one curator put it, the Europeans were doing those captured a favor!. In war, those who are captured are either taken into slavery or killed!. Hmmm!.!.!. A slightly different outlook!? So, what about those who never made it to the North American continent!? They were offloaded in the islands known as the outer banks (the Caribbean Islands)!. There, they were put to work on sugar plantations -- life there was excedingly cruel!. As compared to life in the Antebellum South, where there were actually laws in place to protect the slaves from abusive handlers and owners!. Yep, that's right, laws!. If a handler/foreman were caught whipping a slave, he was tried for cruelty AND if found guilty (and apparently many were), they could pray for time in jail, otherwise they were either whipped themselves or hanged outright!. Hmmm, the history you never hear about!. So, the movie "Roots" was a lie!? No, not entirely!. But it DID present a very onesided agenda on the subject!. Simply put, those who insist on hanging on to this idea of professional victimhood, REALLY need to grow up and take responsibility for their life!. Ever notice how people from the C!. Islands never identify themselves as being "African-Haitian" or whatever!? Their ancestors had it far worse and came from the same regions (mainly Senigal)!. Why then do so many in the U!.S!. insist on clinging to a "heritage" that is mostly fictional!? Sometime ago I posted a very unpopular question which was about whether the African slaves benefited from being taken to America rather than staying in Africa as free men!. I'm thinking about the harshness of the African environment and weather!. I lived in what was Rhodesia for a while and couldn't imagine how people could live there with out modern conveniences like running water, cars and shops!. also, keep in mind white people weren't the only ones to take slaves from Africa!. There were slave roots from the Arabic nations to Africa!. Most of the traffic went overland towards Sudan, Arabia and Turkey- and even China!. The slave trade was the main method of financing muslim expansion into Africa!.
