So what did the North really want to do with the South,especially if the North wanted to send the black slaves back to Africa or at least somewhere else!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: The North was a big industrial region!. They wanted labor too!. It wasn't fair that the South had slaves!. So they went to war!. Then the Big Migration happened later after the War!.Www@QuestionHome@Com It's true that Lincoln thought about allowing the ex-slaves to go back to Africa, because he foresaw generations and generations of cultural difficulties before the former slaves could ever achieve any type of equality in the US!. But financially it wasn't a practical idea!. Northern abolitionists took up collections, and did manage to send a few ex-slaves back to Africa!. The country of Liberia in Africa was settled by ex-Slaves from the US!. Obviously you don't want to believe it, but the North's purpose in the Civil War was to reunite the United States!. Freeing the slaves was a side effect of the effort to keep out any foreign interference!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The North's war aims were to restore the Union and, later, to abolish slavery in America!. Originally, the Union's goal was to stop what it saw as a Southern rebellion and bring the secessionist states back into the Union!. The nature of the war eventually changed as it became a full-fledged Civil War!. Many Northerners, including politicians in the U!.S!. government, were abolitionists or at least were morally opposed to slavery; they had no real interest in restoring the Union if slavery remained a Southern institution!. One of the reasons the south seceded was because of a law the government passed that would not allow slavery to spread to any new states!. If I remember correctly the law was a compromise by Lincoln's party, which wanted to abolish slavery outright, with the southern states to keep them in the union!. When the south seceded anyway Lincoln pushed forward with the aboliton he always favored!. So to some degree the end of slavery was always a goal of the war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The north population just wanted to mend nation and maybe free the slaves too!.I think the north simply wanted to reunite the country because if they did not they had a major competitor for resources and it was embarrassing!. But i am sure there was a extremist who wanted to send the slaves back but it was not on Lincolns agenda or that as the north as a whole!.
