also called "The War Between the States", the Civil War had the seceding Southern states, known as the Confederate States of America (or simply "The Confederacy") against the other, Northern states, commonly called "The Union"!.

The seceding states were Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee and Louisiana!.

The other states of the US were "The Union":

California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wisconsin!.
