You're correct!. Without the assistance of France and Spain (and to a lessor extent, the Dutch), the Patriots would not have been able to win the war the way they did!. However, it is possible that the war of Independence would have continued for decades as a guerilla war, and might have ended up with the formation of an independent America, but with a great deal more bitterness and hostility between the new country and Britain, as well as more deeply ingrained hostility between parties in America!. If it went that route (whithout French, Spanish and Dutch aid), it's likely the fighting would have resembled the Irish battle to win independence, and would have thus left Britain with a long, bitter road to defeat, and with a really serious problem for WWI and WWII!. It may be argued that America was willing and able to come to the assistance of Britain in the World Wars only because the War of Independence was relatively short and the break with the mother country was demonstrated rather forcefully some decades later (War of 1812)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They sent troops only at the end or the war and the ships arrived at the perfect time and place!. The Americans would probably have won the war eventually!. The British people were not enthusiastic!. The second to the last battle of the war was fought in NC!. The British won but they suffered so many losses they were dispirited!. At the battle of Yorktown with the French ships arriving at the perfect time the British gave up the fight!. To them the costs in lives and money and continuing the war from across the ocean proved to be too much!. The war had already lasted 8 years!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We would enventually have became independent, as other British colonies were, but the Revolution would have failed!. In the Battle of York, the fina in the war, the British were surrendering to French, not Americans!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Probably eventually!.!.!.!.!.but not when it was or how it was!. The comparisons made by others above with Canada I believe are a good analogy!. Australia and other parts of the former British Empire that gain very gradual independence over centuries would have been how!. And maybe we wouldnt even be separate from Canada!.!.!.!.!.who knows!?

But for all his faults!.!.!.!.!.ole King Louis XVI, who would lose his head in not too long afterwards, sure did us a great favor for which I dont think he gets much credit for (at least in USA history) for seeing a great weakness in his arch enemy (Britain) and striking at it!.

So for what its worth!.!.!.!.thanks Louis!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, but it would have taken much much longer!. Eventually the British divested themselves of almost all of their colonies (India, Jamaica, Australia, Canada, etc)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

France never sent Australia any troops, gun and all that!.

What are you talking about!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not in the way it was!.!.!.We would probably be more like Canada!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
