Question: Whats the point in a bed !?
Can’t we just put a mattress on the floor and sleep on that!? The ground and beds have the same hardness!. Is it for storage!? If it’s for storage isn’t it a bit expensive and wouldn’t most normal people find an alternative like a set of drawers!? So why did people use it so many years ago if they didn’t own excessive amounts of stuff!? I know the answer to this question is, cause its tradition to have a bed!. But why think up the idea of a bed and sell it for high prices if it’s not that necessary in the first place!? Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is no necessity to have a mattress on a box spring foundation or bed frame!. It can work just as well on the floor as you already know!. As for the tradition of the bed, you can than the ancient Egyptians for that!. They discovered that the raised bed allowed cool nighttime air to flow underneath, and thus allowed more comfortable sleep during warm weather!. That was carried further during the middle ages when the plague was running rampant throughout most of Europe and the middle east!. Beds were usually closer to the window, and people who slept in beds generally did not contract the plague in near the numbers of those who slept on the floors!. Then comes the Elizabethan Era, in which beds became a sort of status symbol, where royalty and people of status would spend most of their time in a bed and conduct their business from there!. Which finally leads us to the modern era, in which all the average people (we're talking mostly western society here) had to have a part in the status quo, and now it's just the thing that one just has to have!. In Japan and Korea, beds are not common as most sleep on futons placed on the floor!. In the middle east, most sleep on mats!. That's about all I know about beds!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Canopies developed to protect sleepers from rats and insects who fell through thatched rooves onto people sleeping in their beds!. We elevate our beds because it separates us from the floor where bugs crawl and dust settles!. Additionally, box springs make the mattress more pliable so when you move around on it it gives, creating a softer, more comfortable bed!. Warm air rises so in colder weather a mattress on the floor would be the coldest place in the room!.

Functionally speaking, a bed on box springs is the same height as a chair so you can sit on it to put on your socks!. also, as you get older, it is much easier to get out of if it is elevated!. Then you only need dangle your legs off the side and stand whereas coming from the floor requires more lifting which can be hard on older people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

There are two distinct advantages to a raised bed!. The first is that it's simply easier to get in and out of for most folks!. Being higher up means a lot less work to stand up from a raised bed!. Secondly, there are a fair number of creepy crawlies that don't climb verticle surfaces very well, and thus are kept from getting into your bed if it's on stilts, so to speak!. In the military, we put small can of water under each leg of our cots in an effort to keep even the climbing sorts of critters from getting into the beds!. It worked, too, for the most part!. Storage is probably a decent third reason, come to think of it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes you can put a mattress on the floor and sleep on that!. For me, I like to get into a comfortable, warm bed with nice clean sheets, because it make 'me' feel better inside!. The next morning, I feel I have given my body the 'best chance' I could give it to have a productive day whence I next awake!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the point is to get us off the floor, to keep us away from critters and bugs and cold draft!. it has only been recently we have pest control and heating/cooling units!. houses used to get very drafty especially during the winter months!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

that's what I do and I have no complaints!.
It's a plus bc I don't have a bed to shove junk under and make messy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well originally the point was to raise them of the ground to avoid drafts, dirt, and pests!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
