the japanese attacked australia on several occasions, including the bombing of darwin on february 19, 1942, and the bombing of airfields in queensland!. also several allied ships were sunk in australian waters during the war!. although no japanese plans were made to actually invade the continent, it was widely believed by both the people and the government, that an invasion was imminent!. what the japanese tried to do was to cut australia off from supplies and materials from the u!.s!. with submarines and taking port moresby on new guinea!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes, the Japanese did plan to attack Australia and sent several one man submarines to check out the coast, some harbors and the like!.

Recently, two such sunken subs were located in the area in which they were sunk off the coast!.

According to the plans of the Japanese Imperial Army and Navy, the Japanese were planning to invade Papua New Guinea so as to be able to provide air support for the landing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

they want to attack Australia because Australia was helping the American forces to escape from Asia back to USA!. Japan tried to cut off connections of Americans and Australians but they just failed to do so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
