Question: What was the last historical book (non-fiction) that you read that helped you in your daily life!?
The last historical book I read (I've been reading various essays since then) was "The Prophet Armed" by Isaac Deutscher, last month!.

The last book I read was "Outside the Wire" (can't remember the author and I mailed the book to my father in law)!. I finished it two weeks ago!. I am always reading something and historical non fiction is my favorite!. I love history---always have!. I probably read one a month!.
This particular book was a big help to me in understanding what my husband went through while deployed in Afghanistan!. He is having trouble sleeping and a few other things!. The book showed me what it is like to "live" in a combat zone and how the soldiers feel about it and cope with it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Eli Wiesel's Night was the last non fiction book I read, I read it whilst in labors about 9 months ago!. Made the labor seem somehow insignificant!.

I can't say that I do read many non fiction books, I like to read books that are set in a historical time or battle etc!.!. but have a fictional plot or a plot that is loosely based on a true story!.
It gives me that warm fuzzy feeling that I am learning!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The last three books I read -

'The Myth of the Rational Voter' by Bryan Caplan- kinda dry, but some good points

'America Alone' by Mark Steyn - an excellent explanation as to why Europe will cease to exist in the next 30 years

'Applied Economics' by Thomas Sowell - As always, brilliant!. I am firmly convinced that Dr Sowell is currently the smartest man on the planet!. His book 'Basic Economics' altered the way I look at *everything*!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Anne Frank's Diary!. I read the novel four years ago!. It teaches me lessons to be grateful for the technology we have today, and feel very grateful for not living in an annex, hidden from the outside world!.

Another one: Night by Elie Weisel!. I read the novel two years ago!. I can't imagine the torture that the people went through and the daily working conditions!. The starvation taught me a huge lesson to never waste any food!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I read about 70-80 histories and biographies a year!. I read purely for the knowledge and out of curiosity!. I think that a solid grounding in history can give one a different (more long-term) view of current events!.

The real pleasure in reading widely in history is discovering how one thing relates to another!.

Generally, when I want to read a historical book, I go straight to the source!. I just finished reading Marcus Aurelius' "Meditations," a stoic view on living life!. I found it very wise, very useful!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
