Catherine/Katherine Howard! Easy for me to remember both of the katherines, because my name is Kathryn! :)

Catherine howard was the fifth wife of Henry VIII of England (1540-1542), and sometimes known by his reference to her as "the rose without a thorn"!.

Catherine's birth date and place of birth are unknown (but occasionally cited as 1521, probably in London)!. She was the daughter of Lord Edmund Howard, a younger son of the 2nd Duke of Norfolk!. Catherine married Henry VIII on 28 July 1540, at Oatlands Palace in Surrey, almost immediately after the annulment of his marriage to Anne of Cleves was arranged!. However, Catherine's past history and, eventually, her marital conduct were known to be unchaste!. She was beheaded after less than two years of marriage to Henry on the grounds of treason, meaning adultery committed while married to the King!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Contrary to popular opinion, Henry VIII did not have 6 wives, he only had 2!.

To explain:

Marriage to Anne Boleyn was declared illegal so is treated as never having took place!. Henry also annulled the marriage before executing her!.

Marriage to Anne of Cleves was annulled, meaning that the marriage effectively never took place

Henry himself declared that his first marriage to Catherine of Aragon was illegal and did not count

Marriage to Catherine of Howard also annulled on the grounds of adultery!.

Meaning he was married only to Catherine Parr and Jane SeymourWww@QuestionHome@Com

In response to the poster above, if Catherine of Aragon was the only "true" wife (as she was in the eyes of the Catholic Church)!. Any wife after her death would have been "legal"!. So Anne Boleyn would not have been recognized by the church, but Jane Seymore would have been!. also, Anne of Cleaves would have been, because Jane also died!. Since Anne of Cleaves marriage was not consumated it is likely the catholic church would have annulled it as well (as they did for Catherine of Aragon and Arthur's wedding before she married Henry)!. Therefore his marriage to Katherine Howard would have been legal!. As she was beheadded and therefore dead, the marriage to Catherine Parr would have been legal, too!. Of course this would all be in the eyes of the Catholic Church as Henry was the head of the Anglican Church and he made everything legal anyway!.

So to summerize in the eyes of the Pope and the Catholic church, the only "illegal" marriage was Anne Boleyn (which is what caused the split in the first place)!.

BUT to answer the ACTUAL question: everyone else is right the missing wife is Katherine HowardWww@QuestionHome@Com

Very interesting James M!. The only way to argue that Henry did not have 6 wives is from a Catholic point of view!. From that viewpoint he could not divorce Katherine of Aragon and so his marriage to Anne Boleyn was invalid!. He was then excommunicated so all subsequent marriages, in the eyes of the Catholic Church, were also invalid!. So he only had one wife!.

Or, they might be kind and say that only the one to Anne was invalid therefore he had five!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

According to my dictionary it is :

Catherine Howard!. ( executed in 1542)

followed by :

Catherine Par , his final wife, in1543!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

A way of remembering them in the right order is:
