No - but like all these things, it's much more impressive to claim it was based on a true story!.

To the extent that it was 'inspired' by a true story, the most common source is the case of Ed Gein (who was not from Texas)!. In fact lots of horror/slasher type murders has been attributed to Ed, including Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho!.

Ed was a 'mentally challenged' individual who robbed graves and made 'clothes' and other items out of the skin and bones he collected!. It seems to have a lot to do with the somewhat troubled and strange relationship he had with his mother even after she was dead!.

Ultimately it wasn't enough for Ed to rob graves and he killed two women!. He didn't cover his tracks well, and the police found one of the bodies hanging up like a carcass being butchered with some other bits apparently ready for cooking!.

It never happened!. But, it was inspired by murderer Ed Gein!. The only thing thats similar is that Ed Gein wore the skin of his victims and so did the texas chainsaw killer!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
