From Winston Churchill:

In War: Resolution!.
In Defeat: Defiance!.
In Victory: Magnanimity!.
In Peace: Good Will!.

(from "The Second World War, Volume I : The Gathering Storm" (1948)!. Its the moral of this 6 volume series!.)

And good advice!. "In Victory: Magnanimity!. In Peace, Good Will!." Accept the southern states back into the union as quickly as possible!. Provide for newly freed slaves (they had nothing after all)!. Rebuild the shattered southern economy and thusly unite the states back into the United States!. Sort of a 1865 version of the Marshall Plan!.

Incidentally, before the Civil War citizens would refer to 'these' United States (plural) which indicated their first loyalties were to their State, not the Nation!. After the Civil War the phrase became 'the' United States (singular)!. Citizens now saw their loyalties to the Nation first!. An interesting twist on how we viewed (and view) ourselves!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
