India was pretty much England's most valuable country!. They called them the "Jewel of the Crown" in response to this!. It was their way of recognizing the fact that, hey, India's got a lot of stuff we need!? Go figure!.

it was the source of many spices and tea and even precious stones like sapphires, rubies, diamonds, emeralds!. India was a warm luxurious place for the wealthy to travel to, and because of the spices and tea that enriched the lifestyles of people in England, but also created employment and wealth in shipping, insurance, warehousing, and merchandising industries, and provided a market for manufactured goods from England, that all enriched the British economy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

India was part of the Commonwealth, and always has been!. Our Kings and Queens were always welcome when they went there, and they gave our Royalty gifts of beautiful jewels etc!. It was their way of showing them what we did for their Country, and thanking us!. All these lovely crowns, tiaras and other gifts are always on show in the Tower of London, and you should visit there if you are ever in London!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
