Unfortunately, 1892 isn't that old for a coin, and if the condition is so bad it can be barely distinguished, it's not going to be worth much, except for maybe silver value, if it IS totally silver!.

I'd keep it for prosperity reasons, and not try to sell it!. God knows I have tons of coins, stamps, baseball cards that aren't worth much except to me!.

A quick trip to a coin/stamp dealer would probably be MUCH quicker than trying to look yourself!. They know exactly what coins were dated in 1892 & would be able to tell you immediately what it is at one glance!.
(also, NEVER sell something like that to a coin dealer!.)

There are tons of sites on line with pictures of coins but you could go blind AND crazy looking thru them!.
Good Luck!.

EDIT;
Just because it is French does NOT make it from France, Canada & a lot of the South Islands (Haiti, French Guyana,etc!.) were coined in French too!. And seriously, a 100 yr old coin is NOT considered "old"!. Money from the time of the Amer Civil War, Union OR Confederate isn't considered that old either, too much of it around!. What part of the country do you LIVE in!? That could help you some, Far north east, could be Canadian, far south east, could be Island, east coastal, could be from any sailor!. We know it's NOT Mexican- French, Mexico won it's independance in 1862!. I would start with French Canadian first!.
Wish I could see it! LOL Now you got me curious!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Seems to be quite old, maybe close to 300!. It would help to get it looked at!. And you could try kelley blue book!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
