Question: Long Island History-- Was it man-made!!?
Someone told me it was made from piles of extra dirt being thrown into the water which eventually piled up to create long island!. Is there any truth to this!!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Long Island is a geological formation resulting from the melting of a glacier!. Glacier's scour the land beneath as they expand, and the glacier's leading edge contains the largest part of the debris field!.

Hence Long Island marks the southern most edge of the glacier field during the last great ice age!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that is a fib!. I don't know for sure but I do know that Long Island has a lot of Native American influence- and I don't see them throwing a bunch of earth to create an entire island!. You also have to realize long island is BIG- it takes close to 3-4 hours to drive from Manhattan to Montauk (tip of LI-observe the native american influence!?)- and that's in light trafficWww@QuestionHome@Com
