Question: If you were a passenger on titanic how do you think you would have acted when it was sinking!?

first thing i would do is go find Leo DiCaprio, throw him overboard, save Kate Winslet and live happily ever after!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is quite important to note that many reactions were linked to social status, thus which deck you were located on!.

Lowest Decks:
You would have been waken up in the middle of the night by slushing water sounds, only to find your cabin flooded with water, in varying depths (depending on which side of the ship you were on)!. You would rush out to the corridor, only to find others just as confused!. Eventually, an official would come through, ordering all to put their life vests on!. You would feel quite confused, even shocked, and would more than likely assume the worst or, if a rational kind of person, follow the official or try to reach the upper decks for more information!. Those in the lower decks were the first to physically experience the effects of the Titanic sinking, thus they immediately knew that they were in trouble!.

A Deck:
You would have been waken up in the middle of the night by a knock on the door anwered by the maid, and informed that the Captain has ordered all to wear their life jackets and to go to the Boat decks!. Otherwise, the ships abrupt stop would have woken you!. After you dress to accomodate the chilly evening weather, yet still be fashionable enough to show off to the other passangers, you would be making your way onto the boat deck to find out what is going on!.

By the time you reach the boat deck, the life boats would more than likely be filling!. You would overhear bits and pieces of conversation letting you in on the situation, yet if you had a higher status, you may even be given the attention of one of the higher officials!.

As those on the upper decks would have not experienced any signs of the ship sinking, the majority would believe the officials and prepare to board the life boats (as those in the upper class had preference), yet there was others, who had chosen to ignore the warning, would be either quite annoyed at being woken up in the middle of the night, for they are on 'an unsinkable ship', while others chose to take their chances on the ship, and wait for assistance there, instead of squeezing into tiny lifeboats!.

Middle Decks:
Status was the key to survival, thus depending on status, you would have different degrees of scenarios as outlined above!.

Lockout:
The rush to the lifeboats was surpressed by the 'lockout', the closing of the gates of the lower decks, which would have prevented the passengers from the lower decks from reaching the top decks!. This would certainly caused anger and violence as class conciousness would have been the last thing on the minds of the lower deck passengers!.

Soon after, the desperation would have been obvious as the water begins rising rapidly!. Desperate calls for help would not be heard on the upper deck, as they would be blocked out by the, by now, panic!.

The majority of the lifeboats would have been launched, some with almost half its capacities, and this would have become (once it is realised by the officials) quite a worrying point!. More than half of the passengers would still be on board - those on the lower decks had virtually no chance for survival!.

By 2!.10AM (when the stern rises out of the water)* it would be obvious to all passengers (even those who were non-believers) that the ship was sinking!. By this time there would be widespread panic, people running everywhere, some jumping off the ship in a desperate attempt to reach a lifeboat, meanwhile the lifeboats would be moving further and further away in fear that those desperate to get in would tip the whole boat over!.!.

I know its alot, but I hope it helps!Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would have been panicky, but assuming I wasn't locked below decks with the poor passengers, I would have caught some of the courage of the orchestra who continued to play until the ship sank!. I may have spent some time ripping apart beds for scraps of lumber to hold onto in the water, but the water was so cold I probably wouldn't have lived an hour in it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

When in trouble, when in doubt, run in circles, scream and shout!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Get on one of the few available life boats, no doubt!Www@QuestionHome@Com
