It happens everywhere though, not just the US!. Japan got criticized a few years ago for ignoring parts of WW2 in their history text books!. I agree with your 2nd point - jingoism is the end result of bad history!. We could do with less nationalism IMO!.Www@QuestionHome@Com History is so often taught by coaches who teach what is written in the text and give tests that reflect only the thoughts from the text!. If history was taught by real history and social studies in a way that taught students to think about the impact of past actions the true idea of teaching history would be realized!. America is not the only country that has done "dubious" things, it happens in every country!. If you think this is the only country with jingoists walking around you need to do more traveling!. One of the reason that everyone thinks that there are more jingoists in the US is because we have all grown up with the freedom to express our opinions freely!. The Civil War was not a great thing, Japanese Internment Camps were not great, slavery wasn't so good, the salem witch trials were pretty cruel!.!.!.Bay of Pigs was pretty silly, the Vietnam War wasn't a great shining moment in our history!. Anytime you're setting up a resume, you're going to want your best moments hightlighted and not your worst!. If you're interested in America's faults then read about them, it's a great country where that kind of writing is ALLOWED!. Nationalism is a good thing and I don't think our Foreign policy is that agressive!. No need to cop out and say "make of that what you will" - a simple "yes" or "no" will answer the question!. Writing History is more than just "setting up a resume" too!.
