The Lusitania was a passenger ship that was doing the Atlantic run between England and New York City!. In 1915 the Germans had a policy of unrestricted submarine warfare, making any British ship a target!. Advertisements had been put in New York papers warning American citizens and others that sailing on the ship might be dangerous, as the ship was a legitimate target of war in German eyes!. Most Americans ignored the warning!.
On May 7, Lusitania was approaching the Irish coast, where the German submarine U-20 was prowling!. It spotted Lusitania, and fired a single torpedo!. The torpedo struck Lusitania, and apparantly set off a secondary explosion!. The ship sank within 18 minutes(even the Titanic had stayed afloat for almost 2 1/2 hours) over 1100 people died, over a hundred of whom were Americans!.
The sinking had two major effects!. The first was the German decision to restrict submarine warfare and no longer target any and all Allied ships!. This would not be official until September of 1915, but the U boat commanders were given stricter guidelines almost immediately after Lusitania sunk!. Second, the sinking angered most Americans,!. raising the support for the allies and correspondingly dislike for Germany and her allies!. It would be another 2 years though, before America would enter the war!. So Lusitania's sinking cannot beconsidered a primary cause for the US joining WW 1!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Lusitania was a cruiseliner sailing from New York to London in 1915!. It was sunk by a German U-boat that fired at it without warning, resulting in the death of 2000 people!. It affected WW1 by turning the US opinion against Germany, creating tension between the two countries!. The US had demanded to Germany to stop firing without warning, but Germany denied, having no intent of stopping!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is alleged that a german uboat torpedoed her and she sank!. That sucked the us into the war on the side of england and france!. It has been suggested that the english sank the ship to swing pro-german american sentiment to their side and get us into the war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
