Question: How was cloth made during ancient times, such as ancient rome!?

There is only one way to make cloth, and that is to have a warp and weft - those are the names of the up-and-down and the cross-ways threads that make up fabrics!. In ancient times, the thread was spun by hand, and the cloth woven by hand on a loom - it looked something like a window--sized picture frame, but it had slots for the threads to run up and down!. A weaver would use a shuttle to draw threads across the up and down threads, under one, over the next, again and again, until the piece of cloth was completed!. It's the same process today, but the thread is spun by machine, not by hand, and the weaving is done by machine, not by hand!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
