Question: What are the Five most famous events in Australia's History!. why were they so important in shaping the nation!?

I think!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

1!. Colonisation
- The landing of the First Fleet from england into Port Jackson on 26th January 1788 - 'New Holland' served as a place of transportation of British convicts as an early isolated colony!.

2!. The Gold Rush
- From 1851 when Edward Hargreaves first reported gold discovery to around the 1860's!. This brought on HUGE changes, politically, socially and economically as the population skyrocketed due to people around the world rushing in to grab their share!. Many Australians simply dropped their jobs and left their families for the scramble for gold, having disastrous effects on local economy!. As for the gold, it was Australia's #1 export for many years!. Pushes for more worker's rights as a result of the Eureka Stockade also changed Australia, and the Southern Cross flag which Laylor's Oath was taken under is still used proudly today!.

3!. The Stolen Generations
- A sad but extremely relevant part of Australia's history!. From as early as the 1860's, Aboriginal children were being removed from their homes and forced to take on Western culture!. This was, in a way, a form of nationalism!. Being removed from their families, often to never see them again, meant that these children would grow up with something missing inside, as not only were their homes and family being taken away from them, but also their culture!. A complicated isolation would have occured, from white people shunning them as Aboriginals who they thought were 'inferior', yet there would also be a sense of isolation from their traditional Aboriginal backgrounds as they had been brought up in white culture!. This continued to occur until
about 1970!.

4!. The Great Depression
- With a huge fall in the stock market, there was a huge global depression in the 1930's!. This had dastardly effects on Australia in general, and made life miserable for most middle-classed Australians!. Many became greatly impoverished and lost many things they owned!.

5!. World War I and II
- Aussie troops were sent to aid the Triple Entente in Europe (consisting of Great Brittain, Russia and France) when World War I broke out in 1914, followed by the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand!. We remember the many lives given in all wars Australia has been part of, and especially the lives that were taken on the shores of Gallipoli!. We commemorate them every year on Remembrance Day and ANZAC day!.

There are many events that have contributed to our society and shaped Australia to be who we are today, but these events are hugely significant and have many impacts that still effect our country even now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I note some people can't stick to five

In no particular order!.!.!.

1!. WWI, specifically the Gallipoli campaign that saw Australia for the first time account for itself as a nation on the world stage!. From the war we took the 'spoils' off Germany of Naru, and New Guinea and thus had a small overseas 'empire'!.

2!. Settlement of Sydney in 1788!. The first European colony in Australia was the foundation of Australia as a modern society!. From Sydney as a base other parts of Australia could be opened up such as Hobart in 1804

3!. The Gold Rush!. Saw a spike in the numbers of people, and indirectly great social change occurred - such as the Eureka Stockade!. Increased wealth lead to Australia's colonies to begin to urge an end to convict transportation

4!. Federation!. In 1901 six colonies sharing a similar outlook and heritage banded together without a 'war' to become an independent nation

5!. The Mabo Decision in the High Court!. The High Court ruled that Native Title had not been extinguished by British occupation in 1788!. From this we get Native Title (somewhat tampered with by the former Howard Government), with a recognition in law of indigenous culture and rightsWww@QuestionHome@Com
