The cold war fueled the space race!. The space race spurred most of the technology of the 60s!.

Without computers and the integrated circuit, the US would not have reached the moon in '69!. And without government funding standing behind every research dollar, these technologies would not have been developed at that time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

With apologies to Al Gore, the military created email and the basics of the internet in order to communicate with military installations and contractors!. As others noted, the military developments translated later into commercial use--satellite transmissions, ultrasound, digital communications and many other things are the results of what was started during the Cold War!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It definitely sped the tech for destroying the world through new weapons of war, but it would have been nice to see what technology could have accomplished with the money spent on technology for the advancement of humanity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
