Question: Why does the Gothic subculture named itself after the Gothic peoples!?
I see no resemblance to the subculture of the goths and the Gothic peoples!. Why does gothic subculture derives its name from a tribe that was far from sad oriented!? The Goths were the least aggressive of the barbarians that invaded Byzantium and Rome and only did because they were forced to!. So why !?

also, why does the Gothic architecture is named like that since it's not gothic but more Italian than Gothic!. The Gothic people didnt have to eat, more so than to build fantastic temples !. So why !?

the gothic subculture is related more to the recent Gothic architecture than the architecture related to when the Visigoths were asked to help the Catholics of northern Spain and Portugal to help regain territory gained by the Muslim Berbers of the Magreb who invaded both the Iberian peninsula and southern Italy circa 1200s-1300s!.

Victoria Gothic architecture refers to the Victorian age houses which were constructed with rounded towerlike shapes within the substructure of the buildin itself, sometimes with domes and occassionally balconies with ornate wrought iron balconies!.

In time Gothic refered to the dark and sombre undertones of the Victorian era, especially in light of violence meted on ladies of the night by Jack the Ripper and romantic violence in novels from the era such as Dr Jekyll and Mr!. Hyde and Frankenstein!.

Thus today's Goth subculture are actually a retro-Victorian revival ala Dark Shadows!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Gothic architecture is so named because compared to the more elegant Greek & Roman architecture it was considered large, uncouth & ugly or "barbaric"!. So it was named for the "barbarians" who replaced the Romans; the Goths!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
