As people became more advanced they realized that slavery is wrong!.? The enslaved africans sent to the American colonies were often sold to the slave traders by their own people (other tribes)!.? The slaves were treated as a commodity and traded in the colonies for sugar, etc!.? The southern colonies depended on the slaves to keep their huge plantations going and to work the cotton fields, which is where the southern plantations made their money!.? Therefore, the traders, the plantation owners and the sea captains valued the slave trade to keep them in money!.? The slaves themselves were usually treated okay since they were a possession which had been paid for and a plantation owner needed them to work their fields and run their huge plantations!. It would be in the interest of the slave owners to take care of the slaves and keep them in good health!. However, the slaves who were used to being free had to suffer the indignity of being chained and were whipped if they tried to escape or refused to do their master's bidding!.
