War has gone on in the entire Caucasus region since Imperial Russia began its expansion into the region, in the early 1700s!. The discovery of oil in the region intensified the conflict in the 20th c!.

The Chechen people have resisted all efforts to dominate them in a continuing fight for independence and national existence!.

There are two points of view chiefly: Russia's and Chechnya's!. The present war goes back to 1944 when Stalin had most of the populace, 400,000 deported to Central Asian steppe lands due to the suspicion that they had collaborated with the German invaders!. The Soviets acknowledged their wrong and injury to the Chechen's, but have never apologized for their behavior, believe in their right to rule, or their intention to retain control!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Which war are you referring to!? There were 2 wars in Chechnya!.

Human differences have brought WARS for the millennium and will continue doing so!.

Politicians have a tendency NOT to allow nature to take its course!. I'd rather see two opposing factions duke it out and may the better one win!.

Then if I do not agree with the WINNER, then I will duke it out with them at their weakest -- just after finishing a war!. I win, they lose!.

So leave Chechnya alone!. Let their internal strife finish its course!. Yes, some human life will perish!. That's life! May the winner be one we can live with!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
