This was the average, or perhaps the mean!. This wasn't just true of Egyptians!. This was true all over the world!.
The infant mortality rate was absolutely appalling!. Infants regularly died from mumps, measles, diptheria, typhoid, salmonella, ear infections, strep throat, sepsis, typhus - you name it, they died from it!. The Egyptians were reknowned for their medical care - they learned a lot about anatomy from the process of embalming so many corpses - but they had no understanding of disease, and lots and lots of adults died from childbirth, parasites, pneumonia, flu and the like!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's a bit misleading!. It's just averaging the deaths of all Egyptians!. In Egypt, as in all societies before about 1800, infant mortality was very high!. Only half of children born made it to nine!. If they got there, they might last into their forties or fifties!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
