Macbeth is among the best-known of William Shakespeare's plays, and is his shortest tragedy, believed to have been written between 1603 and 1606!. In the play by Shakespeare, Macbeth is told by three witches that he is going to be Thane of Cawdor, and 'King hereafter' he arrives home to find that he has indeed been made Thane of Cawdor,a nd so he wonders when the next part of the prophecy is going to come true!. When he tells his wife about it, she decides to speed things up, and persuades him to murder the King, Duncan, who is staying with them, so that he can be King!.

Lady Macbeth goes mad with guilt, and we learn that she has died!.
