Question: Why did some people resent the Chinese!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
In the past!? Like at the goldfields for example!?

The Chinese worked a lot harder for a lot less!. They didn't blow all their money at the local saloon, they lived frugally and sent the money back home!. They often worked through the discarded tailings of other miners and made a good living from the gold the Europeans were often too lazy or stupid to find!.

People didn't like that!.

These days, the Chinese in other countries usually form enclaves in cities and then turnm them into little Chinas, the local language is replaced with Chinese, local businesses are forced out through competition with businesses using lots of family (and hence free or very cheap) labour and people resent that kind of "colonisation by stealth" approach!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No sure who you mean by 'some people' and where you are talking about!. In North America, there was resentment because the Chinese were regarded as threats to local laborers!. They would work longer hours for less pay!. What the locals regarded as starvation wages were, however, riches to the Chinese, and in many cases enabled them to support famlies back home in China - families they were not allowed to bring to North America and which they would likely never see again, due to the high cost of voyages back to China!.
As indentured laborers, they were hired out on work gangs to do such tasks as laying railway ties!. Interestingly enough, although animosity was directed toward the Chinese who were actually doing the work, they were contracted by white bosses, who saw them as a good source of cheap labor!. So the people who should have received the approbation were those who hired them, not the workers themselves!.
Funny old world we live in, isn't it!?
Things have changed, however, and in recent years, Asian art, Asian food, Asian fashions and above all, Asian imports, have brought about a high level of respect for the Chinese!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Like the others said above me, mostly due to the image that people have of China pumping out poorly made goods to the US and causing the loss of manufacturing jobs!.

In reality, most of that sort of child labor-cheap bad good business comes from Indonesia, Vietnam, and Laos!. Its a misconception, since right as the controveries began many of the corporations moved after the Chinese economy became more expensive to run in!.

And to the guy who said they hate our culture, they love it!. I'm not sure when you were born, perhaps in Mao's time, but modern China loves America!. China, while having a one party system, is not really a communist nation anymore!. The party still calls itself the communist party, but its essentially a free market economy!.

But after getting off topic, yeah, its mostly right now due to the perceived opression of Tibet and misconceptions about Chinese manufacturing!. Sure, they still do a lot of it, but they're no longer the mustache twirling child hating villians people make them out to be!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I resent them now because they're flooding our country with their cheaply-made, low-quality, lead-laced, germ-infested disgusting products!.
They're also communists who use child-labour, and they hate our culture, simply because they're all so closed-minded!.
And apparently, they have never heard of deoderant!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yup!. among all races in the world, I observed that Chinese is the only race that kills own blood to earn a living compare to other race otherwise Chinese would not able to write a book called Sun Tzu! I am chinese and I am killed by own races right now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
