i think it was to keep it from becoming part of the united states!. the original Oregon/Washington territory extended up to at least whistler and maybe the kelowna/kamloops area!. then around that time (1858) there was a property dispute that went out of control in the San Juan Islands started by a pig (hence it was called the pig war) that made the u!.s border where it is today!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
