Not exactly what you asked for but I studied Spartan history at university and can give you the top 3 books on Sparta in my opinion:
The Spartans - Paul Cartledge
On Sparta - Plutarch
The Histories - Herodotus
These have histories, biographies, quotes, insights into culture, traditions and the military and are'nt that difficult to read!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
