Question: Is the xylophone a descendant of the gamelan in musical history!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Xylophone-like instruments are featured in ethnic music all over the world!. I suspect these instruments were first created in Africa and spread to the rest of the world, although it's possible they emerged simultaneously in different places!.

Marimba is the grand-daddy of them all!.

Xylophone has wooden bars!. The instruments played in gamelan typically have metal bars, like the glockenspeil!.

Check out Jegog Gamelan, played on bamboo instruments!. Very unusual & exciting music!Www@QuestionHome@Com
