The best contribution I can think of, and it's probably an obvious one, is that with their blood, their struggle, and their suffering, they gave us the United States that should be, with the leftover of slavery finally thrown away, as it should have been in at least 1808, if not before!.

What followed was a struggle more of character than force of arms!. If you look at the United States as a person, then before 1865, we were a greedy, stingy little kid, who wanted everything for ourselves and weren't going to share!. After the war, as an adolescent, we began to grow into an adult, learning hard lessons like how to get along with others, sometimes making mistakes, but gradually moving forward!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
