Question: Should the USA Cancel Britain`s World War Debts!?!?!?!?
Being Allies didn`t have much to do with it, and the USA never cancelled Britain`s debts to America for either the First or Second World Wars!.

What it did do, and I read this in an account by Griggs, was to cut the interest on the outstanding debts from 5% or 6% to 3%!.

So what do you think!? Should debts of Allies be cut!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

We payed the last instalment in 2006 :

Britain's war debts
At the end of the Second World War, Britain was financially shattered!. But help was at hand!.

The US loaned $4!.33bn (£2!.2bn) to Britain in 1945, while Canada loaned US$1!.19 bn (£607m) in 1946, at a rate of 2% annual interest!.

How long do you think it took to repay those debts!?

In fact, the last payments will be made only today, the last working day of 2006!.

The final payments of the loans, to the United States and Canada, are not negligible - $83!.25m (£42!.5m) and $22!.7m respectively!.

Upon the final payments, the UK will have paid back a total of $7!.5bn (£3!.8bn) to the US and US$2 bn (£1bn) to Canada!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Why are they paying this debt to USA aren't they in bed together now!? I thought it was wiped cleared when the affair started during Tory Regime(Thatcher & Co!.) Well as you may know by now the debt has been repaid!. I think it was essential that the loan was repaid because as by definition it was a loan which was the property of the American people who were both morally and legally entitled to have their money back!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think I am right in saying that the debt was paid off in the last two or three years!.!.!.!.it was trillions of dollars!.!.!.!.why should they let us off!.!.!.we knew what we were getting into!.!.!.!.there was a lot of controversy at the time as to whether they should have lent us the money in the first place, now that would have been wrong!.!.!.but no, it was a lawful debt and we repaid it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
