Most folks would pick Appomattox Courthouse, Virginia!. It was on Palm Sunday April 9 1865 at the Wilmer McLean House where Confederate General Robert E!. Lee surrendered his Army of Northern Virginia to General Ulysses S!. Grant!.

Days later another confederate army surrendered to William T!. Sherman!. While this and other surrenders marked the end of the Civil War, Appomattox is best remembered,Www@QuestionHome@Com

Great story I saw on Public TV!. This guy lives outside of
Washington DC!. The Battle of Bull Run takes place which I believe was the first battle of the Civil war!. It ends up taking place in his first yard!. He is really upset and decides to move
his family!. So he goes down south and moves into a
small town called Appomattox Court!. When Lee meets
Grant to surrender they agree to meet in the parlour of this
man's house!. He could truly say that the Civil War started in his front yard and ended in his parlour!. True story!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
