Well, the fact that Oval Office conversations were recorded wasn't known until then, in fact it had gone on for some thirty years already!.

The dirty tricks in the campaign were also old hat!. If you've ever worked on a political campaign or known people who have, you'll know that campaign signs get stolen the night before the election, things like that!. Most of these are viewed as pranks, but the revelation that Ed Muskie's "Canuck letter" in which he supposedly slandered Canadians was a forgery, cooked up by people working for the Nixon Campaign was quite a shock!.

It would be as if the speeches of the Reverend Wright were concocted by the GOP because they thought they had a better chance to beat Hillary than Obama!.

For a while there, I was beginning to wonder if that had happened!.

The biggest thing was the accusation that the President had been involved in the coverup of the break-in at Democratic National Committee headquarters!. If they'd been able to create enough insulation, layers of people involved, so the President would have had "plausible deniability", then the whole thing could have ended with the Cubans and Liddy!.

The President also appointed Archibald Cox, special prosecutor, and then fired him when he started demanding the White House tapes, having to go through a wide swath of the Justice Department before he found one who would fire Cox, and then resigned immediately after doing so!. That man was Robert Bork!.

So, if a bill of impeachment were to be drawn up, there's two articles right there: obstruction of justice and with-holding evidence!.

The President is responsible for enforcing the laws, so when he tries to obstruct justice, it's a serious offense!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
