Yeah, you're completely right!. There may have been other city states and what-not, but Armenia was OFFICIALLY the first NATION, so you're 100% right!. I would definitely print out the source I attached (seemed like a good one) or one of your own that you find just on principle- your teacher should definitely have their facts straight, I mean that's pretty big, and he or she shouldn't be acting like that anyways!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, the context is vague!. The Jews were the first to accept Christ generally speaking, but not nationally or universally!. Gentile peoples from all over the Empire and beyond came soon after!.

The first nation to accept Christianity was Armenia!. There is also the various forms of Christianity to be considered too!. Gnosticism is older than the Armenian Church and it originated in Egypt!. (edit: I accidentally said Europe)

There is about a billion ways to interpret the same information!. But I would put Rome last on my list for the Europe/Near East countries!. Rome simply transformed the religion into a world wide phenomenon!. Rome would've never even known about it were not for the Greeks for example!. So your teacher is wrong, both figuratively and literally Rome was not first!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

some people think history isall about what is in the history books, and sometimes we find out new stuff about the happenings in history, so we update the books!. problem sompeople don't update there minds at the same time!.

you are not wrong, but your teacher may be very hard to convince of that!. Perhaps if you remind her of the reason the Romans adopted christianity in the first place!. Because it was becomming popular amoung many of the ethnic groups around the meditrainean !.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, she probably meant the first world power!. You are correct that your people were earlier, as were a number of smaller nations or city states in the 300 years before Rome got around to it!.

Keep in mind that her objective is to get as much history into you in as little time as possible!. You could spend a lifetime studying history and still not have all the facts!.

You're not wrong!. She's just lazier than she ought to be!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, you're correct!. Armenia became Christianized under Tiridates III in 301!. Yes, Armenia was a client kingdom that switched back and forth between the Roman and Persian Empire, but it was a a kingdom nonethless and a nation!.

Unfortunately, history of ancient Christianity in the U!.S tends to focus on Europe and the Middle East!. Yet, there were churches outside of what was the Roman Empire!. Ask her if she's heard of the Assyrian Church of the East that was in the Persian Empire or the St!. Thomas Christians (now known as the Syro-Malabar Church) in India!? Both existed since the mid-1st century!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Armenia adopted Christianity before the Roman Empire!. But there are good reasons to think the Mesopotamian kingdom of Osrhoene, with its capital Edessa, under Kings called Abgar, adopted Christianity early in the third century!. So the ASSYRIANS have a claim to be first!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

From what I understand!.!.anyone who was within the roman empire was considered a roman!.!.so it's easy to see the mistake a lot of people have!.!.!.they are not using pre roman occupation citizenship as a basis for the beginnings of Christianity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You're right!. It really was the Armenians!. My mom told me, and I did some research when I was younger (in about 7th grade, I'm a sophomore now)!. I don't think you're wrong to be offended!. We were definitely the first, and I would have been offended, too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Check the dates!.

Print out the following references to support your statement!.

Each one clearly says Armenia adopted Christianity before the Roman Empire!. (301 AD for Armenia vs later for the Romans)

If she will not go with five references, you can easily find more on the internet!.

If she still sticks with Rome then she is not a very good teacher!. Ask her that is she will not accept facts and wants to interpret history according to her own views, why should you believe her on anything else she says!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
