Battle of Midway

-It was a major naval battle in the Pacific Theater of WW2!.
took place from June 4, 1942 to June 7, 1942, approximately one month after the Battle of the Coral Sea, five months after the Japanese capture of Wake Island, and exactly six months to the day after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor!.During the battle, the United States Navy defeated a Japanese attack against Midway Atoll, losing one aircraft carrier and one destroyer, while sinking four Japanese carriers and a heavy cruiser!.

Scorched Earth

-is a military tactic which involves destroying anything that might be useful to the enemy while advancing through or withdrawing from an area!. Although initially referring to the practice of burning crops to deny the enemy food sources, in its modern usage the term is not limited to food stocks, and can include the destruction of shelter, transportation, communications and industrial resources!. The practice may be carried out by an army in enemy territory, or its own home territory!.

Battle of Iwo Jima

-was the American capture of island of Iwo Jima from the Japanese during the Pacific Campaign of World War II!. Ground fighting on the island lasted from the landings of February 19 to a final Japanese charge the morning of March 26, 1945!. The U!.S!. invasion, known as Operation Detachment, was charged with the mission of capturing the airfields on Iwo Jima!.

NATO

-North Atlantic Treaty Organization,is a military alliance established by the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty on 4 April 1949!. Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, the organization constitutes a system of collective defense whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party!.

Woodrow Wilson

- was the twenty-eighth President of the United States!. A devout Presbyterian, and leading intellectual of the Progressive Era, he served as President of Princeton University and then became the Governor of New Jersey in 1910!. With Theodore Roosevelt and William Howard Taft dividing the Republican Party vote, Wilson was elected President as a Democrat in 1912!.

Battle of Midway:
One of the three turning points of WWII!. Midway was the largest naval battle in WWII!. It was fought between the Americans and Japanese!. Americans won by using Carriers and Naval Aviation!. Battle of Midway stopped a series of Japaneses advancements and pushed Japan to the defensive!.

Scorched Earth:
A policy used by the Soviet Union and Alexander Tsar!. When the Nazis or Napolean invades Russia, they would burn all the buildings, food, crops ect!. so the enemies can't get any supplies from the land!.

Battle of Iwo Jima:
An island which Americans captured planning to build an air base that was in range to bomb tokyo!. But Japan surrendered before the invasion of Japan took place!.

NATO:
North Atlantic Treaty Organization!.
A collection of former Western Bloc countries, and now many others!. The invasion of a NATO country would be viewed by all other NATO country as an invasion on their own soil, and they must send military force to help!. Its called Collective Security!.

Woodrow Wilson
American president at the end of WWI!. During the Treaty of Versailles, he objected harsh punishment of Germany!. He also created The League of Nations but American membership never passed congress!.

MidWay-revenge for the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese forces, the even that caused the U!.S!. to enter WWII!. Midway was significant because bombers were outfitted to take off from aircraft carriers!.
Scorched earth-the aftermath of the German Blizkrieg or lightening attacks!. High altitude bombers (Stukas) would drop massive ordinance!. Panzer divisions (Nazi super tanks) would roll through next followed by seasoned infantry men who would kill every living thing and set fire to structures!. Evil as hell but very efficient!.
