Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
She was fairly ruthless in her pursuit of power, she managed to get Julius Caesar on her side in the civil war with her brother, which was very useful to her, and she had a son by him, who she called Caesarion!. She undoubtedly had imperial ambitions, and she and her lover Mark antony took on the might of the Roman empire and tried to start an empire of their own, encompassing both Rome and Asia, which did not go down very well with the Romans!. roman authors naturally wrote about her quite disaparagingly!. They seem to have blamed her for corrupting Marc Antony and turning him against Rome!.

The Roman poet Horace seems to have had mixed feelings towards her!. He said of her "A crazy queen was plotting with her polluted train of evil debauchees, to demolish the capitol and topple the Empire - " but then he says of her death "Her face serene, she courageouly viewed her fallen palace!. With fortitude she handled fierce snakes, her corporeal frame drank in their venom: resolved for death, she was brave indeed!."

Sextus Propertus wrote:

"What of her who of late has fastened disgrace upon our arms, and a woman who fornicated even with her slaves, demanded as the price of her shameful union the walls of Rome, and the senate made over to her dominion!?"

The roman poet Lucan said of her,

"Cleopatra, the shame of Egypt, the lascivious fury who was to become the bane of Rome!.!.!.!.resembled Helen of Sparta, whose dangerous beauty ruined Mycenae and laid Troy in ashes; at all events the passions she aroused did no less damage to our country!."

Cleopatra was seen as a potential wrecker of the Roman empire, and as the seducer and corrupter of Marc Antony!.

I would describe her as ruthless and ambitious, but probably not particularly cruel by the standards of her time!. What seems to have upset her critics is the fact that she was a foreigner, a woman, and a seducer of two Roman rulers, as well as posing a threat to the empire!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

She was the lover of Julius Caesar, then Caesar was assassinated!. Then She became the lover of Marcus Antony, which was First Consul of Rome, and Caesar general, but Antony betrayed Caesar by supporting the senate right before Caesar assassination!. Then Marcus Antony was defeated and killed by Octavius, later Agustus Caesar, which was the true heir of Julius Caesar!. People believed that Cleopatra was somehow cursed and she was somehow responsible for their beloved Julius Caesar, and almost put an end to the glorious Roman Empire before it started!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

that would be in the eye of the beholder, wouldn't it!? i mean, she did have her half-brother killed and was a ruthless as any leader around then as now but isn't that what made her as famous and the immortal that she is!.!.!.!?!.!.!.hum! cleo was one of a kind!. i'm not too sure she was as beautiful as history states but her brain was top stuff!. she spoke seven or more languages, had an acute grasp of political events, knew how to 'handle' both julius caesar as well as antony!. she might've had handlers and advisers but in the end she advised her court where and what to do! she was a dangerous person then but also would be today if she were alive: she was a smart woman who never needed men to forward her desires but needed them to foster them!. cool, eh!? you bet! in answer to your question, any person who rules, walks between famous and infamous!. cleo!? she had class!Www@QuestionHome@Com
