As an American, I can only guess what's in British books, but I suspect it's a slightly different version!. Most Americans believe that we defeated the British and pushed them out!. I find it difficult to fully believe in that version ("History is a myth written by the victors" -Napoleon)!. Actually studying the events of the Revolution, we lost most major battles & we lost most major cities!. In short, the British were kicking our butts!.

However, the West Indies were considered much more lucrative at the time, and since the French were making a move there, the British went off to confront them as we were mostly a side note in terms of power!. A small force was left under Cornwallis, who Washington was able to defeat at the Battle of Yorktown, winning independence for America!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To Israa, it's interesting that someone who uses such poor English would try to degrade another group of people!. The US does in fact have a very rich history that includes all kinds of people, including the "red Indians" as you so primitively put it!. I would suggest that you perfect your English communication skills before you sadly attempt to offend anyone!.

To answer this question, I would think that the account in English history books wouldn't be that different from the American one!. Interesting question though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Call it the 'War of Independence', never learned about it in school!. My history classes were British social history (ie how the Elizabethans, Romans, Victorians etc lived) in Primary school (-11) and mostly 20th Century political history (Nazi Germany, Cold War, Civil Rights Movement) between 11 and 18!. I'm 23 now if that makes a difference!. Go to www!.amazon!.com you can find great British history books there!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The modern British view of American Independance really isn't all that different than the American view, as both have thrown off the authority of the monarchy now!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
