Although similar camps existed earlier, the English term "concentration camp" was first used to describe camps operated by the British in South Africa during the 1899-1902 Second Boer War!. the camps were used to confine and control large numbers of civilians as part of a scorched earth tactic!.

At the time that Kitchener started the concentration camps in South Africa the war had entered the guerrilla phase, and they were used to pesaude people not to fight!. although nobody was killed like in Nazi Germany, conditions were harsh and many died!.

Boer War!. The English!. They took the wives and children into camps to try to persuade the men to give up the fight!. They didn't actually kill anyone, but many died from dysentery and malnutrition!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
