Question: When you answer a question in the History section, do you know what you're talking about!.!.!.!?
or do you just copy and paste internet articles without thinking!?

Should Yahoo! Answers delete answers that are merely copied from the internet (although how this would be determined, I don't know)!? After all, it is plagiarism, which is stealing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
I think Yahoo deletes enough questions as it is! LOL

I DO have to look up dates and correct spellings of names/places cuz I really sux at spelling!. And I will copy/paste those!.

For kids homework help, yeah, I'll copy & paste!. It helps the kids out!. Why not!. Kids have a lot on their plates these days!. I see no harm in it!.

But for serious questions!.!.!. history is my love!. The older the better!. It's one of the VERY FEW things I DO excel at!. I hardly bother with any other catagory except to hang out with my buds in baseball & polls!. So yeah, I know history!.

also, if it's something I DON'T know and no one has bothered to answer, yeah, I'll look it up, copy&paste AND give the references!.
That way we BOTH will learn something!.

EDIT
Matt - Kids hate history taught in schools, especially minority kids, & I can't blame them!. It's biased as all hell!. School history NEVER teaches kids Pres Woodrow Wilson was one of the biggiest bigots in the world & that Helen Keller was a Socialist & huge supporter of Soveit Russia!. It's because teachers aren't allowed to teach kids that!. It is OUR fault!. I would LOVE to tell a kid to read a book about what a racist pig President Wilson was, but they won't!. And that will not change until we start allowing our history teachers to teach factual history and not have the kids wasting time filling out page after page of useless "what happened in 1492" questionaires simply becasue the teachers have to have this things done!.
Kids aren't all lazy and a lot of them do have a lot on their plates these, a hellava lot more than I did as a kid for sure!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i agree!.

and also, some of the people in this section can get annoying posting the wrong answers to things!. you will find that many teens answer around here, which can get a little!.!.!. you guessed it, annoying!.

and also, like the first answerer, i stick to question which involve the time period i am most knowledgeable about!. if i don't know an answer, then i don't put one!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I like to post a link in the vain hope that it will encourage the asker to do more research on their own!.

also, why should I put in the time and effort to type out what I know for someone on here to plagiarise my work!.
Cut and paste works for me and I cite the source of the information!.
Therefore, it is not plagiarism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Generally, I try not to just cut-and-paste answers; if I don't know the subject well enough to give a reasonable answer without checking sources like Wikipedia, I just don't answer it in the first place!. I may use sites like Wikipedia to fill in the details that I've forgotten, but most of my answers are just based on what I've picked up over years of reading!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Native American questions I know the answers to 95% of the time but I do add Articles to show what im talking about

I have often wondered why people ,esp students dont just look them up instead of asking others to do it for them most could have an answer before they could type a questionWww@QuestionHome@Com

I was a history major in college, so I pretty much stick to the questions about the era I did my concentration in!. I actually don't know the answers to most of the homework questions people post here anymore, because college history and high school history are two different beasts!. Those I just leave alone!. People can find someone else to help them cheat on their schoolwork!.

To answer your second question, I'm not sure how doable it would be to ban answers taken from other Internet sites!. I would love to see Yahoo! ban the questions that are blatantly test questions or from assignments, though, the ones where they don't even bother to get rid of the question numbers!. Seriously, haven't these kids ever heard of Google!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have a history degee and mainly concentrated on U!.S history!. I try to read as much as I can on European and Mexican history!.

I try to give answer that will give the poster an idea of where to find the answers!. One would be surprised how helpful an index can be!. What annoys me is when I give a clue hoping to inspire the poster to do research and the next poster give a cut and paster job!. In one post, a person had posted asking why the communists in Vietnam War were diffcult to fight for an essay!. I answered by referring the poster to a book (A Better War) that dispelled the myth that the Vietnam could not be won, which students are usually taught!. And what happened!? The next two posters give a cut and paste job!. What's worse!? It was of the same article The third poster did post a summarization of points (Thank you, btw, if you read this as most have never heard of the Easter offensive) that the original poster would have learned if he or she had read the book!.

What I learned about researching when writing essays and papers in college is how one book can give you an idea and that leads to another book and another book!. My works cited pages would about 1/3 of the articles and books I actually read with the other 2/3 being articles and books that weren't revelant to the paper, but eventually did lead me to the ones that were!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
