The Vietnam War had grandparents marching next to tie-dyed teenagers against a common enemy-- our own government, largely the first time in history a voice against the power structure was heard!. Our own government had the military aiming rifles at college students and peaceful protest marchers!. The Free Love and drug use changed the perspective of Americans more radically than Einstein's "Where you stand depends on where you sit" explanation of how solar eclipses appeared to various locales in the 1920s!. The negative effect was a lack of work ethic and the conservative backlash that was felt into the 1980s!. There was much contention between Old School politics and political stance and the new Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out mentality of the hippie movement!. Live and let live left a lot of important issues undealt with or ignored completely, which then came back to bite us in the butt for decades after!. They stood up to the ESTABLISHMENT in a way that no other decade did before!. also with the help of hallucinogenics they were able to access a part of the mind that helped them to see the illusion of the EGO and that we are actually all ONE which paralleled a lot of EASTERN PHILOSOPHY and RELIGION and they were guided by such figures as the GURU Maharishimash yogi (or whatever his name was) and the Zitar MUSICIAN RAVI SHANKAR who is actually Norma Jones' Dad And MUSIC yes with the DRUGS and BLUES Revival from the BRITISH BANDS the music really was great and a lot of really great and talented musicians came out around that time as well!. There was just a lot going on at the time and the decade was really an explosive one but HUMAN Nature finally kicked in and the NOTION that materialism would not bring about true happiness although TRUE did not catch on for long because MAN is SELFISH and will not give up the desires of the ego for a notion of a greater good!. It is really impossible to do in such a society of materialism in a physical world!. I CANT DO IT but I do try to concentrate on greater joy than just the physical and cheap thrills!.
