Question: Who was a better military strategist: Julius Caesar or Adolf Hitler!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Caesar, hands down!. Hitler didn't want to listen to anything that suggested a campaing wasn't going Germany's way and would rather believe statistics on paper than what his commanding generals were telling him the actual situation was!. As far as he was concerned, his paper tigers were his actual armies and should have been able to overrun any opposition in their way!. But it's easy to look at a piece of paper and see what kind of strength you're supposed to have, it's something totally different to look at the cold hard facts about your actual strength and try doing something with it!. Hitler was paying more attention to stats that list how many troops an army should have and how well it's equipped then he was to what was actually going on in his armies!.

Even worse for Hitler as a strategist, he was so concerned with exterminating Jews that he was actually pulling front line troops to round them up and act as guards for the concentration camps and the trains that hauled them to the camps!. How much fighting strength do you think an army actually has in reality when it's loosing men to the efforts of the Holocaust!? Once again Hitler looked at the paper tigers, in other words the statistics on paper as to how strong his armies were supposed to be, not to the armies actually in the field!.

Caesar was concerned with actually winning, not with how many troops a scroll might claim his army actually had!. So he knew what was really going on and could plan properly based on the actual stats!. This made him far more victorious on the battlefield than Hitler ever could have been!. He also didn't pull front line troops away from the front line just so as to exterminate a particular race of people at the expense of actually being able to fight a war!. He might pull a few front line troops away to oversee prisoners or hold defensive positions, but would know to bring up folks as soon as possible to replace them!. That's a thought that never occured to Hitler!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Apples and Oranges!.

Hitler was a politician first!. His greatest mistake was believing he could operate militarily coordinated efforts himself, sherking the advice of his cabinet!. He was so obsessive, he couldn't resist invading Russia, despite the fact he had no chance to succeed!. When he pulled reserves off the Rhine to counterattack the Eastern front, most of them defected or surrendered to allies in France!.

Caesar wasn't perfect either!. He was impetuous!. He lost many men in Spain and he nearly lost his life in Greece!. If Pompey had not taken the advice from the politicians in his camp at Pharsalus, Rome may have remained a Republic!. Still, Caesar won, and then he proved he could do it again after the civil war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Caesar, he won time and time again, even when outnumbered!. At his death, Rome was on the way to being a superpower!. Hitler, well, like Obama, he could inspire a crowd with a speech, but his interventions led to many losses for Germany and, at the time of his death, his country was in ruins and about to be split into two!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Read up on Ceasar's campaigns ('The Civil War' & 'The Conquest of Gaul') and compare them with what Hitler wrote in 'Mein Kampf!.' No comparison, is there!? What would you expect from someone who never rose above corporal when he served in the military!? Adolf Hitler and the Nazis were an imitation of the Roman Empire, Caesar was the real thing!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd have to throw my vote in for Caesar!. Hitler was riddled with self made problems that expounded his problem of trying to conquer the free world!. Although if you want to ask who is my pick for all time best strategist I'd have to say Ghengis Kahn!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Adolf Hitler was not much of a strategist, thank god!. If he had listened to his advisors, the war would have been much harder to win!. He had a non-aggression pact with Russia and then invaded!. That was pure stupid!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Caesar!. He might have been power-hungry, but at least he wasn't crazy and syphilitic!.
