Well!.!.!.

The First World War was basically caused by the massive build-up of international tensions and rivalries in the latter part of the nineteenth century!. Certainly "imperialism" and the colonies it brought played a role in this--colonies were economically valuable, and countries like Germany, which got into the game latter, had fewer of them!.

However, not much imperialism actually went on during the war; the countries with colonial empires (Great Britain, France, Belgium, Germany, etc!.) were busy slugging it out in the trenches of the Western Front!. The whole "imperialism" business was put in the back burner!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

How it led to imperialism in WW I, does not make any sense!. The Austro Hungarian, Prussian and the Ottoman Empire were some of the strongest during that time!. And since most European countries had colonies overseas, they decided that by controlling those countries they would have access to the resources too!. They formed the Triple Alliance!.
The White Man felt the continents were backward and heathen, so they felt they had to colonise and educate them!. That was the white man's burden!. And take the resources in the process!. So the greed for more colonies during a period when there were still Empires in Europe led to the War!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
