Question: The Name of living animals and their name as food!!?
Hi does anyone know why there was a split between the word for living animals and them as food!? For example cow-beef and pork-swine!?!?

Does anyone know what historical event caused this and in what year it occured!?

i just know it occured in england, but i dont know what event caused this and when!. Hope someone knows!Www@QuestionHome@Com

This was a result of the Norman invasion of England in 1066!.
The Normans spoke a form of French and the words for flesh is derived from that language!. e!.g porc whereas the animals kept their old saxon names!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Beef and pork and several others derive from French words!. The peasants used the pure English but the upper class who didn't have much reason to talk about farm animals used French a lot, and it spread from there!. The event that started this may be the invasion of Britain by William the conqueror in 1066 or somethingWww@QuestionHome@Com
