The Celts are an Indo-European (aka Aryan) people, who at one time were found all over Europe!.

The Ancient Greeks had contact with the Celts, who they knew of as the Keltoi!. By this time, they seemed to be living in South Eastern Europe and North Western Asia Minor!.

All Indo European peoples originated initially from the same regions, which most experts place in the areas we now know as South Western Russia,The Caucasus or the Central Russian steppes!. So the Celtic groups would have originated in these areas also!.

The early Celts were semi nomadic and tribal, and by 800 to 600 BC had spread to, and were established in the countries we now know of as France, Belgium, Holland, Great Britain(by 600BC), Ireland, and parts of Austria, Switzerland, Germany, pain and Portugal!.

The Celts seem to have been pushed ever westwards, almost certainly by more aggressive peoples, possibly by Illyrians, Dacians, Etruscans and various Germanic tribes!.

By Roman times, all the Celtic peoples (apart from the Gaelic Scots and Irish) had either come under the sway of Rome, or been destroyed or absorbed other barbarian races!.

By the early middle ages Celtic peoples were confined to what is now known as the "Celtic Fringe" - Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Isle Of Man and Brittany in France!.!.!.!.!.Cornwall and Isle of Man became incorporated into England by the 11th Century, and Wales and Ireland also a few centuries later!. Brittany was absorbed by the Frankish kingdom(France), and Scotland united completely with England by the early 18th Century!.

Today Brythonic Celtic languages(Welsh, Breton & Cornish) are still spoken, as are Gaelic Celtic languages( Gaelic and Manx)Www@QuestionHome@Com
