Yes, they did, and her spending was unfairly blamed for the dire economic situation in France!. It is true that she was extravagent, but personal expenditure by the royal family accounted for only a tiny slice of state expenditure, so her spending didn't really make any difference to the French economy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Whether or not they knew about her spending once the Revolution got under way ALL censorship was lifted!. There was a vast increase in the number of pamphlets and newsletters detailing every sordid detail of the royal family, whether real or not!. There was even a growing number of purely pornographic tracts on the queen to come out at this time!.
