Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: For one thing, they needed the help!. But, unlike today, where Canada, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand are fully independent and sovereign nations, in 1939 they had only semi-autonomy!. The four nations described were still under some measure of rule from London and, as a result, were expected to fulfil their duty and take part in the Empire's defence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com More than for any other reason the British government needed men!. For example, by the end of the war some 3 million Indian soldiers had fought on the side of the British!.Www@QuestionHome@Com The U!.K!. is a small nation and they relied heavily on the vast reserves of manpower from the semi-autonomous British dominions (Canada, etc!.) as well as the crown colonies of the British Empire!.Www@QuestionHome@Com In war you accept help from anyone who offers it but there were close political and family ties between the Dominions and BritianWww@QuestionHome@Com All help would be helpful!.
