Why did the navy not sail the USS constiution in 1976?

Question: Why did the navy not sail the USS constiution in 1976!?

I recently read that the first time the USS constiution has sailed since 1881was in 1997!. I was wondering if the navy had even considered sailing it around boston harbor on July 4th, 1976 for the US bicential and if so why where the plans scrapped!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

it was hauled out of the water to dry dock to repair the hull, took longer than expected, the original timbers had to be hand hewn to specs, caulked and re-seated!. our company made the caulk, and they sure used a lot of oakumWww@QuestionHome@Com

It was in disrepair!. Basicly the ship sits there and rots!. maintaining a period sailing vessel is EXTREMELY expensive!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
